Additional Details:

Limited free parking is available for competitors at the Motor Vehicle Technology car park, entrance accessed from New Road. Motor Vehicle Technology Centre Gate, 1 New Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol BS34 8SF. Car park will close at 10pm. Metered parking is available in front of the SGS building. Number plate recognition in place.

Access to the track is via the main entrance on the right of the SGS building, University WISE entrance, through the indoor turnstiles and then straight down the long corridor leading to sliding doors and the track area.

Numbers can be collected from Race HQ, upstairs in the Academy building parallel to the finishing straight. Toilets are available on both floors of this building.

Junior Athletics Club

Our SGS Junior Athletics club is open to children aged 4-16. Whether you're experienced or new to athletics, this club offers sessions to unlock an individual's potential in multiple athletics events in running, jumping and throwing. Joining our club as a member will provide you with the opportunity to compete at recognised England Athletics events.

A mixed ability social running club run by coaches from Bristol & West AC may be the session for you if you are looking to keep healthy, meet new people and become more engaged with athletics, whether you are an experienced runner or new to athletics.

Academy Offer

Athletes attending either the College or University programmes will receive fully coached training sessions in their chosen event. Athletes will have the opportunity to train in more than one event and be given training programmes based on their level. We will liaise with personal club coaches and athletes will also receive coached S&C sessions, physiotherapy support, workshops such as nutrition, pilates, mental well being and analysis along with balance and core based sessions. Athletes will be coached in Sprints & Hurdles, Endurance, Jumps and Throws by Head Coach Andrea Garcia-Lock, Coach Edward Ellis-Cooper and B&W AC Coach Paul Filer. Competition locally, regionally and Nationally, AOC regional championships hosted on site, English Schools pathway. Volunteer opportunities with our junior programmes.

Deaf Athletics

A new family programme for deaf fitness and athletics

In a new cooperation between Deaf Studies Trust, Bristol and West Athletics Club and South Gloucestershire College we have set up a new weekly programme of fitness development based in athletics. This is specially designed for deaf participants with instruction in BSL and in English.

Higher Ed. Provision

University level students will have the above provision plus the opportunity for work experience within the academy and community programmes plus the opportunity to compete at BUCS. All competitions provided except the school age group competitions.

Who Can Apply

Anyone post 16 through to senior age group who would like to improve in their chosen athletics event

Academy Successes

Jenna Blundell - represented GB at junior level. Several scholarships to American universities. Representation at National and International level for past students including English Schools and World Schools.
