Level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching & Cycling Performance

The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching & Cycling Performance is designed for learners who are keen cyclists and who are looking to combine their education with their cycling aspirations. Many of the world's top professional riders are enrolled on degree programmes which offer flexibility to fit studying and learning around their race programme, but until we launched our programme in 2020, there was no equivalent opportunity for junior riders engaging in Further Education. Until now, young cyclists have had to make a choice, follow your cycling dreams or concentrate on your education. Either way there was a risk - missing out on a promising career in cycling or missing out on completing your education. SGS College made it possible to simultaneously succeed in junior cycling and in education by uniquely pioneering an online delivery. Every lesson is delivered online via our virtual classroom. All lessons are recorded enabling learners to repeat any lesson at any time. As proved by one of the first riders to join our programme, Josh Tarling, we have made it possible to enjoy a world class education whilst becoming a world class rider.

Uniquely in Further Education, the L3 Diploma in Sports Coaching & Cycling Performance and Cycling Elite Junior Cycling Programme has been designed for distance learning - we are recruiting learners who live anywhere within the United Kingdom. All learning, coaching and training will take place on-line.

Learners will have their own Today's Plan account to receive training session plans and to upload ride data for analysis and feedback. The SGS Elite Junior Cycling Programme is not a cycling club or a team, so riders are free to represent any club or team of their choice giving learners complete flexibility over their racing programme.

Diploma in Sporting Excellence

New for 2022 and in partnership with British Cycling, we are now offering the opportunity for learners to combine the L3 Diploma in Sports Coaching & Cycling Performance with the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE). Places on DiSE are awarded by British Cycling according to rider performance. Learners enrolled on to DiSE will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence based around their racing and training in relation to topics such as nutrition, psychology and tactics.

DiSE learners will also be invited to attend an all-expenses paid two-week DiSE training camp coordinated by British Cycling in Tenerife in the early spring.

Elite Junior Cycling Programme

Learners on the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching & Cycling Performance will be enrolled on to the SGS Elite Junior Cycling Programme. In addition to the college's existing portfolio of sports academies, the SGS Cycling Academy, in partnership with ROADSTARZ, provides each of its members with a complete on-line program of coaching, training and mentoring. Learners are given bespoke training plans, feedback on racing and training performance and guidance to develop their cycling fitness and race performance. Founder of ROADSTARZ Nic Tilling started the company to enable people to achieve greatness by cycling. After teaching sport science and physical education and sharing his passion for sports performance with over a thousand learners in over 20 years, ROADSTARZ was created to connect aspiring cyclists with his insight as a rider, his knowledge of fitness, training, nutrition and sport science, and his skills as a coach and educator.

SGS Elite Junior Cycling Programme Training Camp

New for 2023 we will be holding an all-expenses paid SGS Elite Cycling Academy training camp in Spain in the early spring. Places will be awarded on the camp based on attitude and commitment to learning and training.
